Who owns a Cloud Seeding business?
This updated map is a week old…. No rain in last 7 days, no rain in next 7 days.
Well, here we are... Another month with below average rainfall…. more drought in sight…
Currently, we are in a "moderate drought" still, but as records show, some areas have recorded their least amount of rainfall in the last 60 days... EVER. This is especially tough as our resident trout species begin to spawn.
Brookies are already doing the dance, while the Browns are gearing, up only a few weeks away.
Please, use EXTRA caution if you need to trout fish (Find your local tail waters), we are in for another 10 days of no precipitation, hopefully the middle of October changes that!
How about that
Fall Run Kick Off !!!
We have so many thanks to give! The donated items from our sponsors, the vendors from ALL over the Northeast, family, friends & the guests that came to support.
Mike winning an Echo rod in our Casting Competition!
Creeks & Critters Crew !
Sawyer pulling raffle tickets!
We are already looking forward to the FRKO 2026 event! More sponsors, more raffles, more fun. Thank you to everyone that showed, and continues to support 716 fly fishing / The Hairy Trout.
We’ve been on the water with clients this past week, targeting a variety of species.
Joel landed his first 2 Muskies the other day! What a beautiful day we were given… 70s and sunshine, and the fish didnt care! Joel really stuck through and made sure effort was given on every cast and retrieve, and was rewarded.
We recently spent a day on a cold tailwater to our south, and got into some happy trouts. For the forseable future, we are not running any trout trips on our local freestone streams.
This touches back with respecting our fishery, and after the struggle with water levels ( & at some points temperatures ) this summer, the spawn beginning, and STILL in a moderate drought, our trout trips will be postponed or we will make the drive for full day trips to tail waters.
We are approaching low 40s overnight, which tells many species to start eating. It may be toasty by lunch time, but the morning bite has been GREAT. Contact us today or stop in the HT to get some details!
Hosted Trips
We are approaching full for both our 716FF hosted trip to Idaho / Montana next June, & our Hairy Trout Hosted trip to Alaska next September/October!
Alaskan trip overview:
Our hosted trip will take place from September 29th to October 9th, 2026, and will focus on targeting wild steelhead and resident rainbow trout, with potential bycatch of dolly varden and silver salmon (coho). The steelhead in these systems typically range from 6-12 lbs, though fish up to 18-20 lbs are possible and would be considered a trophy. The Kenai’s rainbow trout are some of the largest in Alaska, with many specimens exceeding 20+ inches, and some trophy fish reaching the 30+ inch class.
October is Big Trout & Steelhead!
Trout on the Kenai don’t get any bigger than they do during the month of October, all of the salmon that have entered the river will be consumed by something, bears, eagles, and especially rainbow trout. Kenai trout gain so much girth through the season they appear to be as big around as they are long by October.
If you have any interest, would like details or more, please visit our website or contact us via email or phone!
This coming weekend, we are competing in:
